His remarks came after Mohan Bhagwat, head of the BJP RSS ideological mentor, said India needed a population control policy “equally applicable to all”. In his remarks at the annual Dussehra gathering of the RSS, he also cited the “religious imbalance” of the population and “forced conversions”.
“Along with population control, balance on a religious basis is also a matter of importance that cannot be ignored,” he stressed, weeks after meeting with Muslim leaders in what was seen as sensitization through RSS.
Mr Owaisi cited the National Family Health Survey – 5 and said that the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of Muslims had seen the biggest decline.
AIMIM leader challenged RSS leader to talk about missing Hindu girls. “I want to ask Mohan Bhagwat. Hundreds of thousands of daughters of our Hindu sisters have disappeared from 2000 to 2019. That’s the government figure. But he won’t talk about it,” he said.
“Remember, a Hindu Rashtra is against Indian nationalism. He is against India,” Mr Owaisi said.
The AIMIM leader also slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her recent remark in which she somehow exonerated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of businessmen under the agencies radar. investigation fleeing the country.
“We go to Bengal, we become the B team (of BJP). Modi is good, Owaisi is bad,” he said.
Mr Owaisi said wherever the BJP is in power, it seems Muslims are “living in an open prison”.
He questioned the prime minister’s silence on the recent incident in Gujarat in which men accused of throwing stones at a garba gathering were tied to a pole and whipped in public. “Is this our dignity? Mr. Prime Minister, you are from Gujarat, you were the chief minister and in your state Muslims are tied to a pole and whipped and the crowd is whistling. Please shut up courts, fire the police,” he said. .
Responding to Mr Owaisi’s remarks, BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said the AIMIM leader had become a “bayan purush” and wanted to create controversy. “Asaduddin Owaisi has become ‘Bayan Purush’, he wants to create controversy. Low population is good for society,” Hussain said. “The bigger the population, the bigger the problem it creates. You have to keep that in mind,” he added.
