Global Award for “One Country, One Rate” from BTRC

Steps taken by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to ensure global recognition of affordable broadband internet as its flat rate internet initiative titled “One Country, One Rate” won the award ASOCIO-2022 in the “Environment, Social and Governance” category.

Brigadier General Md Nasim Parvez, Managing Director of BTRC’s Systems and Services Division, received the award during the ASOCIO Global Summit 2022 held in Singapore on Friday.

“Ensuring affordable internet access to everyone in every corner of the country is a complex task. But Bangladesh has skillfully achieved ‘one country, one price’ for high-speed internet through extensive consultation and implementation of advanced technologies,” according to the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry. “With clear predictions and a far-sighted decision, the government of Bangladesh has now brought the price of the internet down to an affordable level.”

In June last year, the telecommunications regulator set the maximum price for high-speed Internet connection.

A customer now has to pay Tk 500 per month to use a broadband connection with a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps.

For 10 Mbps, the throughput will be 800 Tk to 1000 Tk, and for 20 Mbps – 1100 Tk to 1200 Tk.

“The affordable flat rate has proven to be a boon for remote people, bridging the digital divide between urban and rural areas and rich and poor. , the “Single rate” initiative.

He hopes these affordable internet prices will help to easily provide various services to citizens and establish e-governance effectively.
