Hyundai suspends marketing and communication activities with Chelsea due to Roman Abramovich sanctions

Hyundai has suspended its marketing and communications activities with Chelsea, the club sponsor has confirmed.

They have temporarily suspended their agreement to be the Club’s ‘Official Global Automotive Partner’ which sees them having their sponsor on the shirt sleeves.

It has now been noted that once possible Hyundai will ask Chelsea to remove their logo from the shirt sleeves.

The car company has been with the Blues since 2018, and the deal is believed to be worth £10m per season.

What did Hyundai say?

In a statement, they said: “Hyundai has become one of football’s strongest partners over the years and the company supports sport as a force for good.

“Through our partnership with Chelsea FC, we are proud to support the players, fans and grassroots football.

“However, in the current circumstances, we have taken the decision to suspend our marketing and communication activities with the Club until further notice.”

And the other sponsors?

Nike and Trivago have committed themselves to the Club, while Three and Zapp have suspended their agreements.

These are values ​​shared by Chelsea Football Club, an institution now 117 years old with a tradition so important to its fans and communities. , both locally and globally, which is why we decided to partner with the Club last year.

Going forward, it is important for us to continue to support the club, the fans and the community and the essential work that the Chelsea Foundation does. to help those in need. We look forward to a transition of ownership as soon as possible and wish to support the club in this process. We will provide any updates on our business relationship as and when appropriate.

Zapp, like Hyundai, has suspended marketing activities with the club, with the partnership still under review. Three have also requested that their logos be removed until further notice.
