“Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seem to have different views on India’s growing population. Rakesh Sinha, the RSS ideologue and member of the Rajya Sabha has withdrawn a private member’s bill on population control. He had proposed this bill in 2019 and finally withdrew in April 2022 after hearing our Mansukh Mandaviya. The Uttar Pradesh Population Control (Control, Stabilization and Welfare) Bill 2021 was placed in the public domain for comment and section in September last year. However, comments were to be emailed only and there was no tracking of contributions. UP’s bill goes completely against what the Modi government has told parliament on these issues. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told Rajya Sabha on Friday that instead of using ‘force (jabran)’, the government had successfully used awareness and health campaigns to achieve control the population. Although Sinha understood that it was a mistake on his part to bring such a bill, Yogi Adityanath on the other hand continues to push it in his usual brash style. The reason is to cover up governance failures that blame the UP people. The Yogi administration does not even understand the basic problems of the Indian people. He should realize that India no longer has any problem with the population. Yogi Adityanath’s clock is 40 years behind. If India has a problem with population, then you have to worry about declining trends that will lead to negative growth before the end of this century. Moreover, this constant bogey of Muslims overtaking Hindus in the near future remains key to this disinformation campaign. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
