Low vaccination rate hampering travel to Nigeria, others –IATA

The International Air Transport Association, the Geneva-based trade association that represents over 230 international/global airlines, said low vaccination rates are slowing airline passenger traffic in Nigeria and other countries. Africans.

IATA revealed this in a report entitled “The number of air passengers to recover in 2024”, published on Tuesday.

He added that passenger traffic levels across Africa would reach 76% of 2019 levels in 2022 before surpassing pre-crisis levels by 2025.

He said: “The outlook for passenger traffic in Africa is somewhat weaker in the near term, due to slow progress in vaccinating the population and the impact of the crisis on developing economies.

“Passenger numbers to/from/within Africa will recover more gradually than in other regions, reaching 76% of 2019 levels in 2022, only exceeding pre-crisis levels until ‘in 2025 (101%).”

According to the association, it expects the total number of travelers to reach four billion in 2024, surpassing pre-COVID-19 levels to reach 103% of 2019 levels.

He added that expectations about the shape of the near-term recovery have shifted slightly due to changing government-imposed travel restrictions in some markets.

IATA Director General Willie Walsh reportedly said: “The trajectory of the recovery in passenger numbers from COVID-19 has not been altered by the Omicron variant.
