Patna, June 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday pleaded for female education as a key step in controlling the country’s population growth.
Interacting with the media here, he said that the development of law and its implementation will only be successful if and until women are educated. His statement came in response to the BJP ally’s call for a population control law.
“Our government made a comprehensive study on population control of the country in 2012-2013. At that time, the population growth rate was 4.3. We have worked hard in implementing policies, have them made public and have sensitized the people of the state. . Thanks to our efforts, the population growth rate is now reduced to 3,” he said.
“During the study, if we had a husband and wife with above grade 10 education, the population growth rate was 2 in the country. As for Bihar, the population growth rate was also 2. For educated women above class 12, the population growth rate was slightly lower than the rest of the country, which made us very happy.
“The focus on studying girls at that time is paying off now. The birth rate has reached 3 and if we continue like this for the next 5-7 years, the birth rate will reach 2 per family. But if we are making a law, it would not yield results,” Nitish Kumar argued.
“We have an example of China which had introduced a law for one child. This decision did not turn out to be positive…then they withdrew the decision and allowed two children. I went to China to make it the personal experience… I went to crowded places in the evening every day to understand what ordinary people in China thought about this decision of a child. My interpreter told me that the majority of families were against the decision of the Chinese government. Only the law cannot give the positive result you want. The work can be done in such a way that people adopt it as a habit,” he added.
