With population growth expected to approach 50% by 2051 in Kawartha Lakes, City staff have launched a new Growth Management Strategy (GMS) project that takes a closer look at future growth and accompanying urban land.
“The City of Kawartha Lakes is expected to grow to 117,000 residents and 39,000 jobs by 2051,” said Leah Barrie, Director of Planning, City of Kawartha Lakes.
“To plan for this growth, the Planning Division is launching a new GMS. The first GMS was completed in 2010, with an update in 2011, and in accordance with provincial requirements, we are updating it to ensure we are ready for years to come.
The GMS will also inform the city’s Official Plan, or Comprehensive Municipal Review, updating taking into account population growth, housing and employment needs, and coordinating infrastructure investments.
To participate in the GMS development discussion, provide feedback, and learn more about the project, visit the City’s Jump In page. The public pledge includes a Request for Growth Proposals form, which will remain open until September 30, 2022.
Questions, concerns and requests for additional information can also be directed to the GMS Project Team by emailing gms@kawarthalakes.ca.
