Nagaland Minister Temjen Imna Along, who is making headlines for his humorous remark about the “small eyes” of people in the northeast, made a witty remark about the country’s people.

Along used World Population Day (July 11) to suggest a way to control the country’s growing population. Temjen Imna Along wrote on Twitter: “On World Population Day, let us be sensitive to issues of population growth and inculcate informed reproductive choices. Or stay single like me and together we can contribute to a sustainable future. Come join the singles movement today.

The minister’s witty message won praise from Twitterati. “You have a unique sense of humor. I really like that you mix elements of humor with serious topics,” one user wrote.

Another user said Inma Along was the most eligible bachelor after Salman Khan.

Earlier, Along received praise for his comment on the popular stereotype people in India’s northeast region face because of their “small eyes”. The BJP leader said it is true that people in the northeast have smaller eyes but their vision is sharp. The video of his comment has since gone viral. “Because of the smaller eyes, we don’t get a lot of dirt inside the eyes. And we can easily sleep when a long program is underway,” the minister said to applause.
