Tripura MLA Increases Demand for Livestock Protection and Population Control Bills

Agartal: Amid the ongoing debate over the Population Control Bill in Uttar Pradesh and the Livestock Protection Bill in neighboring Assam, Tripura BJP MLA Sudhangshu Das is set to propose a resolution of a Member requesting the introduction of similar bills during the session of the Legislative Assembly.

Talk with IsMojoMLA Sudhangshu Das, who represents Fatikroy assembly constituency, said the two laws should be introduced in Tripura following in the footsteps of neighboring Assam and Uttar Pradesh.

“The population control bill should be moved to the assembly as Assam and Tripura have the highest population relative to their geographical areas,” Das said.

The BJP lawmaker also said he would also introduce a private member’s resolution in the next session of the state assembly against the continued practice of cattle smuggling.

Speaking further on the population control bill, Das argued that the country was heading for a severe demographic crisis and resources were limited. The state also has very limited capacities and resources. Laws must be enacted so that the people can benefit greatly from them.

While talking about the Livestock Protection Act, Das said that cattle smuggling has been a protracted problem in northeastern states like Tripura and Assam due to the geographical location and borders we share with the Bangladesh.

“The Chief Minister of Tripura had announced zero tolerance against cattle smuggling in the state. The government must ensure that the law is cultivated to ensure that no cases of cattle smuggling take place in the state. The border security forces have already been instructed to increase vigilance and sensitizing the border population will also help the state deal with the situation,” Das added.

Das believes it is important that bills are brought before the assembly because of the demand raised by a majority of the people and with respect for their feelings.

“In Hindu culture, cows are worshiped and worshiped as holy mothers. If the majority of people are asking for a law to save their faith, the government cannot remain silent. I have decided to propose a private member’s resolution at the next session of the Assembly on the protection of cows,” Das added.

Das, one of the young faces of the ruling BJP, is seen as a future leader of the saffron party. After winning his seat with an overwhelming majority, Das is now focused on working for the party’s ideological goals.

The BJP MP hopes Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will reflect on his views on the two issues as he has taken initiatives on several key issues over the past three and a half years.

“Under the leadership of CM Deb, Tripura has marked its presence at the national level and now people have started talking about Tripura for several reasons including the development pattern of the state,” Das added.
