The bureau this week released its population estimates for cities and towns in 2021. This follows the release of metro and county population estimates earlier this year, which put the Charlotte metro area at around 2.7 million people – up some 31,381 over the year – and Mecklenburg County at 1.12 million – up more than 3,900.
Charlotte is the 16th largest city in the United States, according to estimates.
Since the last census on April 1, 2020, the population of Queen City has increased by approximately 0.6%, or approximately 5,168 people. This growth rate among incorporated areas in the United States with at least 50,000 residents ranked at No. 238.
