India’s population is shrinking due to education, social awareness and wealth, according to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday.
The author of ‘The India Way: Strategies for an Uncertain World’ spoke about India’s population at an event in Gujarat when the Gujarati translation of his book was released ‘India’s Population is Growing less rapidly.
The causes are social conscience, education and economic success. As time passes, there are fewer and fewer families among us.
Mr. Jaishankar continued, “Forced population control could have very serious results, such as gender imbalance.
The demographic composition of India has undergone a significant change since its independence.
Census data from 1951 shows that it experienced a population explosion and a decline in the overall fertility rate.
According to the United Nations World Population Prospects (WPP), 2022, India will overtake China as the most populous nation by 2023, with a population of 140 crore.
Currently, 17.5% of the world’s population lives in India.
India is predicted to have 150 crore by 2030 and 166 crore by 2050.
India’s total fertility rate (TFR) fell to two children per woman in 2021, which is below the replacement level of fertility (2.1).
